“I just want to educate women that are pregnant to be able to enjoy your fit pregnancy and know the benefits definitely outweighs the cons” – Sophie Guidolin

Staying in shape during pregnancy doesn’t have to be a chore on top of all the other things pregnant women need to think about. In fact, as Sophie Guidolin has shown, staying in shape whilst pregnant can have a myriad of health benefits, not the least of which includes having way more energy to get through your days.

Regular exercise whilst pregnant will help you to

  • Help you to carry the weight you gain in pregnancy.
  • Prepare you for the physical challenge of labour and birth.
  • Improve your mood, and give you energy.
  • Help you to sleep better.
  • Make getting back into shape after your baby is born easier.
  • Give you the chance to meet other mums-to-be, if you opt for a class.

Of course, we’re not saying you need to hit the gym 6 days a week and train up to two weeks before giving birth, but exploring the benefits of exercise is a great place to start. Simple things such as these are great, and your body will thank you for it!

  • Walking
  • Swimming
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Weight training

So start easy with regular walking or swimming, 3 or 4 times per week. The general rule of thumb is that if you were doing it before your got pregnant (such as weights training), then you’re generally fine to continue doing that exercise well into your pregnancy. But of course, everyone is unique, so when you fall pregnant, speak to your doctors about the best exercise to do, to make sure you don’t over do it. But judging by great examples such as Sophie or Sarah, most of us should be fine!
