When Do Babies Begin Learning?

Babies Learn When?

A new study shows that unborn babies are listening to their mothers talk during the last 10 weeks of pregnancy and at birth can demonstrate what they’ve heard. ~UW Today, Pacific Lutheran University

Annie Murphy Paul (author of “Origins: How the Nine Months Before Birth Shape the Rest of Our Lives.”) shares a powerful talk on what babies learn before they’re born.

When does the learning begin in the life of your child? Is it preschool, kindergarten? The even earlier phase of toddlerhood? It just so happens that it is even earlier than that. The 9 months while still in the womb.

“Some of the most important learning, we ever do, happens before we are born in the womb.”

What Babies Learn Before They Are Even Born

The study of “fetal origins” is presenting new light on how babies hear and understand before they are even born. Annie Murphy Paul, Magazine Journalist, presents her findings on when babies learn in the early months.

Babies even show preferences to their Mother’s voice over others after hearing her the most while in the womb. Babies even cry in the accent of their mother’s native language. They even develop food preferences. Truly fascinating!
